NSF Workshop for New Investigators

Alison Peck National Science Foundation

The University of Florida, in collaboration with the NSF Directorate for Mathematical and Physical Sciences (MPS), will host a workshop for new and future Principal Investigators (PIs). New researchers, assistant professors, and exceptional postdocs considering academic careers are encouraged to apply. Investigators from underrepresented groups in STEM are especially encouraged to attend.

The main goal of the workshop is two-fold:

  1. To provide prospective PIs who are considering applying for funding from the MPS programs, or who have just received their first award programs, with valuable information and advice on the policies, procedures, and opportunities available at NSF.
  2. To familiarize new investigators with the NSF process and encourage volunteering to review proposals and/or serve on review panels as a way to learn more about it.

In addition to informational presentations on topics relevant to future PIs, each participant will write a mock proposal in advance and go through full panel review processes in breakout sessions. There will also be ample time for discussion with NSF staff and other participants.

This in-person workshop will be held on 7-9 July, at the Westin Alexandria Old Town in Alexandria, Virginia. For registration and additional information, please visit the workshop web page.
