The Annual Review of Astronomy and Astrophysics, in publication since 1963, covers significant developments in the astronomical sciences, including on such topics as the Sun, our solar system and extrasolar planets, stars and star clusters, the interstellar medium, our galaxy and other galaxies, active galactic nuclei, cosmology, instrumentation and techniques, and the history of the development of new areas of research.

The 2021 edition, Vol. 59, is now available online and in print. The 11 reviews in this volume, edited by Ewine van Dishoeck and Robert C. Kennicutt, include tidal disruption events, science highlights from the Gaia precision astrometry mission, the first multimessenger observations of a neutron star merger, and transneptunian space. Volume 59 also features the autobiographical article "The Journey of a Radio Astronomer: Growth of Radio Astronomy in India" by Govind Swarup.
