Surplus Sky-Survey Prints and Transparencies Available

Roberta Humphreys University of Minnesota

The University of Minnesota Institute for Astrophysics has transparencies for three sky surveys available, as well as two sets of prints of the original Palomar Observatory Sky Survey (POSS I).

Sky surveys on transparencies:

  • European Southern Observatory (ESO)/SRC southern sky survey for declinations < -20°, 606 fields in blue and red.
  • UK/SERC Schmidt Equatorial Sky Survey, 288 fields for declinations between 0° and -15° in blue and red.
  • Northern Sky Survey (POSS II), 894 fields for declinations 0° to +90° in blue, red, and far red.

They are all sealed in clear plastic, in large folders with hooks so they can be easily hung or stored in a cabinet.

We also have two sets of the original Palomar Observatory Sky Survey (POSS I) prints, 936 fields, blue and red. One is used. The blue and red prints for each field are in folders with the corresponding transparent overlays. A never-used set in the original envelopes may also be available, including transparent overlays.

If you are interested in any of these valuable sky surveys and are willing to pay to have the transparencies or prints shipped to you, please email Roberta Humphreys, University of Minnesota.
