Enhancements for the Astrophysics Source Code Library

The Astrophysics Source Code Library (ASCL), a free online registry of codes used in astronomy research, has a new website that offers more flexible browsing and an easier submission process and author search. Permalinks (ascl.net/yymm.xxx) for all codes indexed by the ASCL continue to work. The new site has a simple interface with the homepage showing the 10 most recent additions to the resource. The code entries are stored in a MySQL database; we've retained WordPress for content management and have a forum for discussion of individual codes.

Codes can be browsed in alphabetical order, reverse alphabetical order, date order, or reverse date order. Search results can be listed in compact or description mode, as shown in Figures 1 and 2, respectively.

Code entries contain the name and description of the code, names of the code’s authors, and links to the download site, ADS entry, and discussion thread for the code, as shown in Figure 3.

Author names are links; clicking on one brings up all codes registered under that name.

With the new infrastructure, the ASCL site is easier to maintain and offers new possibilities for collaboration. And submitting a code is now easier than ever! We welcome submissions of codes used in research. Got code? Please share!

We expect to put a few additional enhancements into production around the end of the year and hope you find the new site more flexible and easier to use.
