The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) STEM Equity Achievement (SEA) Change initiative’s next course, Climate Assessment to Drive Change, starts 1 September 2022. SEA Change is an initiative designed to make diversity, equity, and inclusion normative in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medical (STEMM) higher education. SEA Change supports institutional transformation through a proven self-assessment process, courses on creating change, and a safe space for community sharing and collaboration. The four-part course is designed to provide faculty, staff, and leaders of higher education institutions with the knowledge, skills, and strategies needed to deploy a campus climate assessment that leads to a more welcoming and inclusive environment for all students to thrive in STEMM disciplines. The overarching goals of the course, designed by Drs. Sylvia Hurtado, Kevin Eagan, Ellen Stolzenberg, and Kadian McIntosh, are to increase the ability of individuals, departments, and intuitions to:

  • Select an appropriate climate assessment
  • Build the internal capacity needed for assessment results to be actionable
  • Engage key groups in the process of data collection, analysis, and ground truthing
  • Create action
  • Track results

The online course is open to the public. Learn more and register.
